The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Group A 2nd game was played between World T20 Champions India and Bangladesh at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on February 20, 2025. It was the 1st ODI match between the two sides after The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 where India came on top and beat Bangladesh on the back of Virat Kohli's Hundred. It was a cracker of a game as both the teams played very good cricket and the fans enjoyed it a lot.

The significance of the match
India and Bangladesh are placed in group A along with the Host Pakistan and New Zealand. In the group, Each team will play 3 matches once with each other team of the same group. The Top two teams from each Group will qualify for the Semifinals. In the context of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, this match was very important for both teams as they wanted to set a statement and start the tournament with a win to get good momentum. This round-robin format of the event provides the least margin of error for the teams as any defeat will put them in an elimination scenario. So, This match did hold a lot of importance for both teams and everyone was expecting a good cracking game ahead.
Teams and Playing 11's
India went into this contest with Harshit Rana and a spin trio of Jadeja, Aksar, and Kuldeep along with Shami. Varun Chakravoarthy and Arshdeep Singh were left out. Whereas Bangladesh had left out experienced Mahmoodullah and youngster Nahid Rana to get Jaker Ali and Tanzim Hassan Saqib into the playing 11.

Bangladesh won the toss and looking at the slow wicket they decided to bat 1st with the expectation that the wicket would become slower and slower as the games progressed. Bangladesh openers started aggressively to put the Indian attack under pressure earlier. But both Indian pacers Muhammad Shami and Harshit Rana bowled beautifully in the power play as they struck early and Bangladesh was left at 2/2 in just 2 overs. Shami Struck again in his 4th over to further dent Bangladesh's progress. Mehdi Miraz left the team with a total of 26 in the 7th over. Rohit introduced Aksar Patel as the wicket was dry. Aksar struck twice in his 1st over to get back-to-back wickets of Tanzid and Mushfiqur as Bangladesh were stranded at 35/5 in 8.3 overs.
Jaker Ali and Hiridoy tried to build the innings again which was looking like going nowhere. They started slowly and got their eye in before playing their shorts. India's fielding was not up to the mark as they dropped 3,4 catches to give both the batters opportunities to score runs. Indian bowlers could not break the partnership as both the batters got set and completed their fifties to take their team's total to 189 in 42 overs. That was a brilliant recovery only to be halted again as Shami struck back with the old ball to dismiss Jaker Ali who scored a well-crafted 68 off 114 balls. Tohid Hiridoy continued his top form and completed his first International hundred in the ODI. With the help of order good fightback and some late blitz, Bangladesh scored 228 as they got out in the last over of the Innings. Tohid Hiridoy played some eye-catching shots and scored 100 off 118 balls. Muhammad Shami was brilliant with the ball he got 5 for 53. Harshit Rana got 3 wickets whereas Aksar got 2.

While Chasing 229 India started aggressively as Rohit Sharma started to use the power play field restrictions, As India crossed 50 in just 6 overs. Rohit Sharma scored a quick 41 before getting out to Taskin Ahmed at the team score of 69. Virat Kohli joined Shubman Gill to build a partnership. Both the batters played some good quality shots before Kohli got out to Rishad at a total of 112. Shreyas Iyer tried to build some momentum with aggressive batting but as the ball was coming onto the bat he got out to Mustafizur Rehman. Bangladesh came back into the contest as they got Aksar also cheaply courtesy of Rishad Hussain. Indian total was 144/4 in the 31st over and the game was looking tight when KL Rahul Joined Shubman Gill. Shubman Gill continued his top form and hit some classy shots.
Both the batters settled their nerves and played the situation beautifully as India completed their chase and won the match in the 47th over. Shubman Gill completed a magnificent hundred, he scored 101 off 129 balls.
For Bangladesh Rishad Hussain was the pick of the bowlers he got 2 for 38 in his 10 overs. Whereas Mustafizur and Taskin got 1,1.

Now India will face their arch-rivals Pakistan which will be must must-win game for Pakistan on February 23, 2025. Bangladesh will head to Pakistan where they will face New Zealand at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on February 24, 2025.
